Happy Saint Patrick's day!

You got to see Chinese New Year, now you get to see something that my side of the family celebrates every year. St Patrick's day is an Irish holiday that celebrates the patron saint of Ireland. All around the globe you can find people of Irish decent celebrating.  Celebrations consist of feast, parades and for some drinking, lots of drinking! The day is originally a religious feast day, but over the years has evolved into something bigger.  You don't have to be Irish to celebrate in fact, you will often find people saying they're "Irish for the day"

Celebrations can vary but our celebration consist of food, family, and fun.   My mom always hosts the family at her home for the traditional boiled dinner. What is a boiled dinner you may ask? It's corned beef (brisket) and cabbage.  The corned beef is boiled in a pot with lots of veggies including: cabbage (of course!), carrots, turnips, and lots of potatoes!  You can find two kinds of beef; grey or red. The red happens to be my favorite and the way my mother prepares it is just absolutely delicious!  After boiling it she takes one of the Reds (yes she makes 4-6 corned beefs!) and adds a mixture of brown sugar and maple syrup and then bakes it or you could even just throw it under a broiler for a few minutes.  The end result is this amazing crust ontop that just melts so well with the flavor of the beef and melts in your mouth. Not to say the grey or the plain ol boiled red ones aren't good but this one is just my personal fav!  We don't reserve this meal just for this holiday as most do. My mom will make this a few times a year. Especially when my grandmother was still with us it was a meal she often requested.

We also have other traditional items such as Irish soda bread, and pastries and then we have a family staple called pickle dip. There is not a family party that doesn't have a bowl of this on the table. I will include the recipe at the end of this post.

It is a big deal here in Boston. Particularly south Boston or "southie".  That is a densely populated Irish area and that is where the annual Saint Patrick's day parade is held. You will be sure to find a sea of drunk people dressed in green lining the streets.  This is the perfect day to "eat, drink, and be merry!"

I personally do not drink and get into all those festivities of being drunk but it's fun to watch!  We typically just spend the day as a family eating and laughing. Sometimes my grandmother would bust out into an Irish jig or sing her favorite song "when Irish eyes are smiling" those are the memories that will stick with me always.  It's sad to say the celebration is not the same without her but that's why we continue celebrating, in her honor.

Do you celebrate? What are some things you and your family do to celebrate?

Pickle dip Recipe is as follows:
1package of softened(room temp) cream cheese
3 or 4 pickle spears chopped up
1/4-1/2 cup of pickle juice
Optional : a pinch of onion powder or celery salt

Take your softened cream cheese and add the pickles mix together until combined
Add a little juice at a time to get it to the consistency you would like
Serve with chips and enjoy!
Note: cut the picks as fine as you like there is no right or wrong way.  I like them a little bigger in the dip and my mom likes them finely chopped.  Everything is to taste. Add more pickles or less pickles. I even garnish the top with some :)

Thanks to my brother john for sharing some of his photos of his dinner too!

February Ipsy Glam Bag

Hey everyone here is a closer look inside my February glam bag!

The bag itself is a cute diamond pattern. It's pink which I love! I got 5 items and I would consider them all full sized items, except for the Hey Honey face peel.

The first item is the large angled brush (504) by Luxie. I have never heard of this brand but the brush is soft and doesn't seem to have any shedding.

Next item is a powdered eye shadow by Rob Scheppy for Tini beauty.  I have never heard of the brand but I have heard of rob .  He's the makeup artist for the kardashian family. Yes that contours on fleek boo boos! (Remind me never to say that again haha)  The shadow is in shade Pearl Fizz (es002)

Next I got a beautiful pink blush.  I tend to stick to the more pinkie shades when ever I use blushes, so this was perfect for me! It's in the shade cosmopolitan 01 and it's by Model co.

Another item I got was from
A company called Cargo Cosmetics. It's a pink creamy shade of Lip gloss called Anguilla

The last item in my glam bag  was a honey exfoliating peel off mask. I am a huge fan of face masks especially peel off ones.  The brand is called "heyHoney"   I have tried this on my face and I absolutely love it! It left my face glowing and feeling baby soft! I will defiantly be re-purchasing this in the full size and checking out more of their products.
I hope you enjoyed seeing what I got in my glam bag and you can go a head and check out my Unboxing video to see my reactions to each product!

Our Chinese New Year Celebration

Happy New Year!!!   Yes, I know it's not January first, but as some of you know my husband is Asian and we celebrate Chinese New Year.  This year is the year of the sheep or goat depending on how you translate it.

Chinese or lunar new year is very important or the most important holiday in. The Chinese culture.  It starts on the second new moon of the winter solstice and ends 15 days later.  The new year is also known as the spring festival in China.

This year we celebrated a few days early because of all the snow we have been getting.  I thought I would share some of the pictures from our day and answer some of the questions I have received on my YouTube video.

This is how the table is set up. It is an offering to ancestors. There's everything from roasted duck to sweets to liquor and tea.

This is my husband and his sister praying and making wishes to their ancestors. Molly and I did it too. You can wish for things like good health and good luck for the new year.  We each held two sticks of lit incense while we made our wishes.

The red envelopes are used to give gifts to the younger children. These are the 3 that molly received. The envelopes are always red because the color red symbolizes good luck, energy, and happiness. Some even say it wards off evil spirits.  The importance of the envelope is not the money inside, it's the well wishes that come with it.

These are two other set ups my mother in law does to offer ancestors.

The last thing we did was to burn money outside. You burn money to represent money in the afterlife.  It's almost like sending a money order to heaven (that's how I look at it anyways). The money you burn ends up going to your ancestors in case they need it where ever they may be.  You can burn anything you want we even had papers with gold and silver on them and some incense.  By doing this your ancestors may bless you back with some kind of good fortune.

We burnt the money outside then buried it in the snow. I hope I was able to give a good explanation on what I've learned about Chinese New Year.   You can check out my YouTube video here:

I love learning about other cultures, traditions, and religions.  Does you family celebrate Chinese New Year or another new year ? What are some cool traditions you have?  Leave me a comment I'd love to hear about it!

I wish you all good health and prosperity! Happy new year <3 Meghan and Molly

Well hello there! Who doesn't love all things DISNEY?  I definitely do!!!   If you follow my YouTube channel you will know I did a DISNEY tag.

If you were tagged or would just like to do this tag (as a blog or video) here are the questions I compiled from other tags going around:

Which DISNEY movie do your remember seeing first in theaters?

What is something you collect from DISNEY?

What is your favorite Disney ride?

What is your Disney Dream job?

Most treasured Disney item?

Which Disney voice actor would you most like to meet?

Favorite snacks at the parks.

Flounder, Sebastian, or scuttle ?

Do you have a favorite pair of Mickey ears?

Favorite restaurants at the parks?

Which Disney princess has the best sidekick?

A scene from a Disney movie you wish you could experience.

An unforgettable experience you've had in the Disney parks

Who are your favorite Disney princesses?

Which characters would you choose to be your BFF?

What is your favorite non classic Disney movie?

If you had the chance to spend time with Walt Disney himself, what would you want to say to him?

I found these questions to be the hardest to answer yet the most entertaining. I hope you like them and leave me a comment with your responses!

Have a great weekend and "see ya real soon!"

Exciting News!!!

I have some really exciting news to share!  I am going to have a guest post on The Girl in the Red Shoes blog. Yay!!!

The girls name is Julie and she has a section on her blog called, The Breastfeeding Diaries. She features moms and gives them the chance to tell their story.  What I love about this is that it's for everyone.   It doesn't matter if you had a successful journey or not. She lets everyone share, because everyone's journey is different.

I would encourage new moms thinking about breastfeeding to check this out.  We tend to do so much research, but there's no better research then real mom stories.   Truth be told, breastfeeding or even becoming a mom is not what you're probably expecting and it's great to go into it with an open mind . Read all these stories so you can be prepared for any and all outcomes or maybe contribute your own.

My post we go up tomorrow (Wednesday 2.4.15) morning and I would love for you all to check it out here:

Thank you Julie, for allowing me to share my story and thoughts on this topic!

Potty Training | 20 months old

Now that Molly is 20 months old ( can't believe it!) we have decided to start consistently potty training her. That means we are trying our best to be consistent with being her to the potty.

I don't know if I am doing it right or wrong but for now here is our potty plan :

Placing her on the potty as soon as she wakes up, because everyone has that first morning pee. So far she's peed twice and it's been that first morning pee.

We try to bring her to the potty every 30 minutes, even if she doesn't have to go. I read that doing this will get her used to the potty.

Right above where we have her potty, I hung a potty chart.  Each time she goes potty she gets a sticker.  I know some people do prizes too but she LOVES stickers, so the sticker is her prize.
I found some great frozen stickers in the $1 spot at Target. 300 stickers for a buck? That's a deal if you ask me!

We started on Sunday (1/24/15) and she peed once in the potty. Her first attempt too! Every other time we sat her on the potty nothing happened, but her diaper was staying dry.  Today, so far has been the same but it's still early!

As far as poops go she sits and acts like she's going but nothing happens.  As soon as I take her off she goes in her diaper

What tricks worked for you? How did you get your child potty trained? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I will do a video update on my YouTube channel soon!
